Celebrating the 25th production of a Shakespeare Festival in Latin America in April 2024.

Festivals:

As the founder of Festival Shakespeare Buenos Aires in 2011, I established the first and only dedicated Shakespearean festival in Latin America. Under my direction, this annual celebration has welcomed over 250,000 attendees, fostering a deep and lasting appreciation for Shakespeare’s work.

My vision also led to the creation of the Teatro Shakespeare in 2013, a temporary Elizabethan-style theatre that I designed and brought to life in various public parks across Buenos Aires. Over three successful seasons, the theatre attracted more than 300,000 visitors, offering an immersive Shakespearean experience in a unique setting.

Expanding Shakespeare’s reach further, I produced and directed the Festival Shakespeare Uruguay in Montevideo from 2014 to 2016, bringing high-quality Shakespearean performances to the heart of the Uruguayan capital.

Recognizing the importance of education, I launched the Festival Shakespeare en la Escuela (Shakespeare School Festival) in 2015. Since its inception, my initiative has engaged hundreds of schools each year, inspiring students through performance and literature.

Theatre:

As both director and producer, I have brought numerous Shakespearean works to the stage, including Macbeth, Antony and Cleopatra, Richard III, Cardenio, and Hamlet. Additionally, I have created and staged original productions such as Shakespeare’s Women, Borges and Shakespeare, Shakespeare, García Lorca y Hamlet, and The Rape of Lucrece, each exploring Shakespeare’s influence across different artistic and literary traditions.

Documentary:

My passion for both cinema and literary scholarship led me to direct and produce Harold Bloom: The Last Interview in 2017, capturing the final reflections of one of the most influential literary critics of our time.

In 2023, I directed and produced Will’s Book: Shakespeare’s First Folio, a documentary exploring the creation and significance of Shakespeare’s First Folio. The film premiered on AMC LATAM on 23rd April and on SKY ARTS UK on 14th November. Produced in collaboration with Folio400.com, it secured international distribution through TVF and has been broadcast in over 40 countries. Featuring insights from renowned Shakespearean scholars—including Sir Stanley Wells, Professor Emma Smith, Professor Paul Edmondson, and Professor Tiffany Stern—the documentary is narrated by Greg Doran for AMC and Professor Emma Smith for SKY ARTS.

Publications, Reviews, and Criticism:

Undertaking the translation and editorial adaptation of Manga Shakespeare: Hamlet, I ensured that the text remained both faithful to the original play and accessible to contemporary audiences. This project combined the richness of Shakespeare’s language with the dynamic storytelling of manga, offering a fresh and engaging interpretation of Hamlet for new generations of readers.

Frequently invited to contribute reviews and articles, I have written for several of Argentina’s leading national newspapers, offering insights on theatre, literature, and Shakespearean studies.

Charitable Endeavours:

Appointed as President of Fundación Romeo in 2015, I have since led the development of numerous educational initiatives in underserved communities, established scholarship programmes, presented distinguished awards, and overseen highly successful fundraising campaigns. Through these efforts, the foundation continues to make a meaningful impact.

I had the honour of creating the Premio Shakespeare Award in 2014, which aims to recognise individuals who have made a significant contribution to culture and the promotion of the performing arts, offering a fresh perspective on the human condition. This award is a tribute to those whose exceptional work has illuminated our path.

The following distinguished individuals have received the award since its inception: Judi Dench, Olivia Hussey, Peter Brook, Harold Bloom, Kenneth Branagh, Tom Stoppard, among many other renowned artists.
